Father and Son di Cat Stevens: testo e traduzione

"Father and Son" è una canzone popolare scritta e interpretata dal cantautore inglese Cat Stevens  inclusa nel suo album "Tea for the Tillerman" (1970).
Insieme a "Wild Word" e ad If You Want To Sing Out  è probabilmente la canzone più nota del cantante, che dopo la conversione all'Islam avvenuta nel 1977, ha preso il nome di Yusuf Islam.

Il brano, che parla del ricorrente conflitto fra vecchia e nuova generazione, ripercorre la conversazione tra un padre, che non riesce a capire il desiderio del figlio di distaccarsi per iniziare una nuova vita, e il figlio che non  riesce a spiegarsi, ma sa che è giunto il momento per lui di cercare il proprio destino.
Cat Stevens canta in un registro più profondo per la parte del padre, in contrasto con il tono più alto utilizzato per le parole del figlio.
